What do u think of flogging as a punishment for criminals?

i used to live in the UAE, Sharjah nd at 18 i was sentenced 30 lashes for fighting, nd my friend was once given 60 lashes for attempting to steal he was 17. i now think twice or more before fighting i actualy try my best to avoid fights although i've left the country. do u think its a gd idea to flog criminals or should physical punishment never be used?
